These stories remind us why Highway 91 exists. Some celebrate remission and healing. Others honor loved ones whose strength and legacy continue to guide us.

Kinsley

Our “Spunky” Fighter

On October 15, 2023, Kinsley’s journey began when what seemed like growing pains and a fever quickly turned into every parent’s worst nightmare. On Monday night, October 16, 2023, her family received the life-changing news that Kinsley had leukemia.

Thankfully, it was the most common type of childhood leukemia and was treatable. She had a port placed the very next day and bravely began chemotherapy. Through months of treatments, hospital stays, pancreatitis, and COVID, Kinsley never lost her spunky spirit, proudly rocking her mohawk—and later her bald head—as she inspired everyone around her with her strength and resilience.

She has since been able to ring the bell, is now in remission, and is living her childhood to the fullest, enjoying the adventures, laughter, and special moments every child deserves. 💛

“Angel Among Us”

God doesn’t promise the future, but He guides us to have faith, stay strong, and hold onto the love we have for one another.

An angel was called home too soon. I didn’t get the chance to meet Jodie, but was blessed to meet her husband Dale and go down memory lane as they celebrated her wonderful life.

In mid-2010, Jodie went in for an annual mammogram and tested positive for breast cancer. She went through chemotherapy and radiation for six weeks, five days a week. Her family believed they had beaten it, but in 2014 she tested positive for breast cancer again and underwent a double mastectomy.

Jodie remained in remission until May 2023, when she began experiencing severe throat pain. In August 2023, she was diagnosed with throat cancer and underwent surgery to remove her vocal cords, becoming a throat breather. She spent many days in the hospital and later underwent a second eight-hour throat surgery because the arteries in her neck were not strong enough to withstand blood flow. She then continued with radiation treatments.

In April 2024, a PET scan revealed a one-inch tumor in her left lung. Within a week, it had doubled in size. Doctors said they could not operate, and Jodie was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. She was brought home and kept as comfortable as possible before cancer won the battle on June 7, 2024, at 8:10 a.m.

Orin Brabec

“I’m Tough”

“I’m Tough,” a motto Orin Brabec has lived by his entire life. On August 22, 2023, his motto was tested after he was diagnosed with cancer. Before August, Orin was in and out of the hospital for stomach pain and a low heart rate. Each doctor could not figure out what was wrong.

At the beginning of August, Orin was hospitalized and underwent surgery to remove a tumor. The surgery was successful, but later revealed that the tumor was cancerous.

After being diagnosed with large B-cell lymphoma, he immediately started scans. His oncologist said that this type of cancer is very aggressive but curable. He received treatments every three weeks, and his second PET scan revealed no signs of cancer.

His family and friends are extremely proud of his positivity throughout this process. He continues to be strong in his faith in Jesus and shows everyone his willingness to fight. You never know how strong you have to be until cancer shakes your life.

Victoria Moore

Living Each Day With Gratitude

Victoria’s journey began in 2023 when she discovered a lump that led to a breast cancer diagnosis. As a 29-year-old mother of three young daughters, one of her first and most heartbreaking thoughts was, “Are my daughters going to have to live without a mother?”

That fear—the uncertainty that comes with such an unpredictable disease—became one of the hardest parts of her battle. With incredible courage, she underwent a double mastectomy, reconstruction, and months of chemotherapy, facing each challenge determined to be there for the family she loved so deeply.

Through every setback, Victoria leaned on her faith and the support of those around her, proving that no one has to fight alone. Today, Victoria is in remission and embraces each day as a new adventure, making the most out of life while raising her beautiful little family with love, gratitude, and joy. 💗

Mary

Faith Through Every Obstacle

Mary’s journey began in 2023 when a swollen lymph node led to a Stage III Hodgkin’s lymphoma diagnosis. She faced months of chemotherapy, the emotional challenges of treatment, and unexpected complications, including pneumonia and sepsis, with remarkable courage and unwavering faith.

Supported by her husband, family, church, and community, Mary found strength through every obstacle and emerged with a heart devoted to encouraging others facing difficult battles.

Today, Mary is in remission and is embracing each new day with gratitude as she and her husband continue building a beautiful life together, praying for the blessing of growing their family in the future. 💛

Angel Among Us

Nichole

A Legacy of Courage and Compassion

Nichole’s cancer journey began after years of searching for answers. Already a Hodgkin’s lymphoma survivor, she was diagnosed with Stage IV cervical cancer in 2021 and courageously endured chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy, surgeries, and countless hospital stays.

When her cancer continued to spread, she pursued every option available, including the opportunity to participate in a clinical trial, holding onto hope not only for herself but for future cancer patients.

Through every setback, Nichole’s unwavering faith, strength, and love for her family and community inspired everyone who knew her. Today, her legacy of courage and compassion lives on, and she is now among the angels who watch over us every day. 🤍

The Hernandez Family

In Memory of an Amazing Father and Dad

Meeting the Hernandez family was an absolute honor, and because of our annual relay event, we were able to help them financially. This family is more than deserving of this gift.

Odalis, Kevin, and Usher have the kindest hearts. Even though they are facing a nightmare no one ever wants to face, they smile and share happy memories. As Usher said, “Sometimes you are faced with things that are hard, but you should never give up.”

Lazaro Hernández passed away on April 10, 2025, after a brief battle with prostate cancer that rapidly spread through the rest of his body. His passing was sudden and extremely hard on his family and their finances.

He leaves behind his wife of 15 years, Odalis; a 15-year-old son with Down syndrome; an 8-year-old son; a 22-year-old daughter; and three grandchildren. Lazaro was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend. We honor and remember his kind heart.

Oaklyn Faith

Strength Beyond Her Years

Oaklyn Faith was diagnosed at just 2 years old with STAT1 Gain-of-Function (STAT1 GOF), a rare autoimmune disease. Since her diagnosis, she has endured a bone marrow transplant from her older sister, chemotherapy, countless medical procedures, and ongoing treatments—more than any child should ever have to face.

Oaklyn is also the youngest confirmed diagnosis of STAT1 GOF. Today, one year later, she is reaching milestones that once seemed impossible. Her strength and determination continue to inspire everyone who knows her.

Courage, Resilience, and Optimism

Paige was just 12 years old when she was diagnosed in December 2024 with BCOR::CCNB3 sarcoma, a rare undifferentiated small round cell cancer located in her bicep.

Throughout most of 2025, Paige courageously endured radiation treatments, chemotherapy, and countless days focused on resting, healing, and regaining her strength. Despite facing such a rare and difficult diagnosis, she never let it diminish her positive spirit and determination.

Today, Paige is recovering well and embracing what she loves most—simply being a kid again after an incredibly challenging journey. Her resilience, courage, and unwavering optimism continue to inspire everyone around her.

Allyn

Choosing to Say Yes to Every Good Day

Allyn is a young wife and mother of two beautiful children whose life changed in 2024 when she was diagnosed with a metastatic neuroendocrine (NET) tumor on her liver. After surgery and months of treatment, she received the incredible news in February 2025 that she was cancer-free and in remission.

But just one year later, in February 2026, follow-up scans revealed six new lesions on her liver, beginning another difficult chapter in her cancer journey.

Today, Allyn is undergoing integrative oncology treatment with hope and determination. She calls this her “Yes Summer”—choosing to say yes to making memories, embracing every good day, and spending precious time with her children, husband, family, and friends.

Her story is a reminder that every moment is a gift, and every memory matters. ❤️
